About this story
High on the wardrobe in warm, golden light, Riya the red kite dreams of flight. Her ribbon tail shimmers as Max carries her to the park — but today's wild, rushing breezes are too strong, flipping her in a bumpy ride until Max gently reels her home. On a calmer day, under a soft blue sky, a just-right breeze lifts her smoothly past the treetops, safe and brave and happy. Told in gentle rhyme, this is a story about sensory sensitivity, knowing your limits, and finding the conditions where you truly soar. Ages 4–9.
- Breeze — a soft, gentle wind
- Gust — a sudden strong rush of wind
- Soar — to fly high and easy
- Reel — to wind string back in
- Wobble — to shake unsteadily
- Grace — smooth, beautiful movement
- Shimmer — to shine with a soft, wavering light
- Steady — firm and even, not changing suddenly
