Cyclone Ready: My Family Plan

A two-page family plan for coastal cyclone season: our safe room, shelter, emergency bag and meeting place on the front; a tick-box kit checklist (torch, water, ORS, documents, power bank) on the back. Made together before the season starts.

How to use this with your child

Fill this in before the season starts, not during a warning. Sit down together and let your child name the two things they will carry.

  • Point out the official warning signals so your child knows them without being frightened by them.
  • Pack the go-bag together and let your child choose one comfort item for it.
  • Walk to the meeting point once, in calm weather, so the route already feels familiar.

Goes well with: the Family Media Agreement for your child’s age (5–7, 8–10, 11–13) — promises the child makes, and promises the grown-ups make back.

Print tips

  • Print at 100% scale — not “fit to page”, so the sizes stay true.
  • Cards print best on thicker paper; laminate them for a school bag or wallet.
  • The ink-saver version is outlines only, so children can colour it in themselves.
  • Keep one copy on the fridge and one where the family already looks every day.
