Our Family Emergency Contacts
One page with every number your family needs — parents and carers, the family doctor, a trusted neighbour, and your local emergency numbers. Box 1 is a big-type call-out: Emergency 911 · Police 911 · Fire 911 · Ambulance 911 · Poison help 911. Box 5 is a 'What to say' script your child can practise. Fill it in here, print it, and keep a copy where everyone can find it.
How to use this with your child
Fill this in with your child sitting beside you — even young children remember a page they helped make.
- Walk through each number together and say the name out loud.
- Practise the 4-step "What to say" script below.
- Put one copy on the fridge and one in the car.
If your child is old enough to be home alone, agree which numbers they may call and when.
Box 1 — Emergency call-out (big type)
Emergency 911 · Police 911 · Fire 911 · Ambulance 911 · Poison help 911
Child helpline: Childhelp 1-800-422-4453
Box 5 — What to say (4-step script for the child)
- Say "I need help".
- Say your name and where you live.
- Say what happened.
- Say where you are now.
Goes well with: the Family Media Agreement for your child's age (5–7, 8–10, 11–13) — promises the child makes, and promises the grown-ups make back.
Print tips
- Print at 100% scale — not “fit to page”, so the sizes stay true.
- Cards print best on thicker paper; laminate them for a school bag or wallet.
- The ink-saver version is outlines only, so children can colour it in themselves.
- Keep one copy on the fridge and one where the family already looks every day.
