Family road-safety checklist to run before every walk and ride: helmets on and buckled — everyone, not just the kids; hold a grown-up's hand at the kerb until traffic has actually stopped; cross at the crossing, never between parked cars; look left AND right, then look again before stepping out; walk facing traffic where there is no pavement; bright and reflective clothes after dark; phones away when crossing.
