About this story

Across the street, Dexter stomps in every puddle he can find. He waves. She doesn't wave back. 'Give her time,' the boot creaks, which is boot language for patience. Then on the third rainy day, a big gust turns Priya's umbrella inside out with a loud POP — and Dexter does the simplest, bravest thing: he runs over, holds up his own plain blue umbrella, and says, 'Mine still works. You can share.' A quiet, lovely story about shy kids, patient kids, and how friendship begins.
