About this story
Long ago in a beautiful forest, a fierce young lion hunted far more animals than he needed, and the forest creatures lived in fear. At a great meeting they agree to a hard bargain: one animal will go to the lion's den each day, so the rest can live in peace. Then it is the rabbit's turn — small, scared, and very clever. She arrives late on purpose, spins a tale of a rival 'lion' who claims to be the true king, and leads the furious beast to a still, mirror-clear pond in the middle of the woods. A classic trickster tale about wits outmatching strength, told in warm read-aloud language.
- Reckless — doing things without thinking or caring about the results
- Fierce — wild, strong, and scary
- Proposal — an idea you offer for others to agree to
- Imposter — someone pretending to be someone they are not
- Reflection — the image you see in a mirror or in still water
- Furious — very, very angry
- Clever — smart at thinking up tricky ideas
- Den — a wild animal's home, like a lion's cave
