About this story

One sunny afternoon, a young girl explores her grandmother's attic and spots something special behind an old trunk: a beautiful paintbrush lying on the dusty floor, shimmering with magical light. It feels warm and tingly in her hands. So she takes a deep breath, dips it in bright pink paint, and paints a simple flower — which begins to glow, and blooms into a real pink flower right beside the easel, petals soft and fragrant. A blue-and-white bird with a red beak lifts off the page next, flying cheerful circles around the room, chirping a sweet song. Then comes the grand idea: a magnificent rainbow bridge, stripes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, glowing brighter and brighter — until a real rainbow bridge stretches across the room, solid beneath her feet. She steps on and walks slowly across, each step taking her higher and farther, toward somewhere completely new and wonderful. A dreamy, wordless-wonder story about art, imagination, and the courage to follow.
